EIF provides tailored support to the poorest countries in the world. We help integrate countries into regional and global trading systems, creating jobs, increasing incomes and lifting people out of poverty.
In its first phase, the programme allocated US$200.6 million to 134 partnerships. Now in its second phase of work, EIF continues to support LDC governments and small businesses to trade, developing the kinds of jobs that improve lives and spur sustainable economic development. EIF's unique approach guarantees full LDC ownership, with the majority of projects co-financed by the countries themselves.
EIF works at all stages of the trade journey. The programme offers expert research and analysis that informs policy, government trade facilitation and targeted sector support based on reseach findings.
RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS
EIF coordinates essential country-specific trade analysis in the form of Diagnostic Trade Integration Studies (DTIS) and Action Matrices. This evidence-based work helps countries identify priorities to guide their trade agendas, reveals constraints to trade integration, and advises on key action areas.

To assist in-country trade planning and implementation, EIF supports the creation of National Implementation Units, which coordinate the delivery of an LDC's trade strategy and policy. These bodies are integral to government operations related to trade.

ENHANCING TRADE SECTORS
Based on the evidence provided by EIF's in-country trade research and analysis, injections of funds are made in key sectors – like pashmina in Nepal, mango in Senegal and coconut in Samoa – all aimed at maximum impact.
